The Montenegrian Registry has recently published the schedule for the launch of the .ME domains.
At the same time the website of the designated operator DotME has been launched: behind it a joint venture that sees Afilias e GoDaddy as its main actors. Besides the fact that DotME seem to have hired the same webagency that created the logo for Alice (the ADSL offer of Telecom Italia in Italy and France) to make their own logo
, the website does not really provide much information on .ME other than the same schedule already seen on the Registry’s website.
Talking to other people close to the DotME organization I was told that among other things the Regulations are not finished yet (but some seem to consider this “a small detail” ) and that thus the launch was unlikely to take place before another 3 months.
However it seems that at least the Montenegrian side of DotME is very eager to get .ME to market as soon as possible: according to the published schedule, even though regulations and procedures are not fully ready and obviously not published yet .ME will launch in a little more than a month from now, and the Registry plans to start accrediting registrars at the same time as they run the sunrise: no need to say that if these plans are followed through the promotional efforts behind the .ME TLD will be the first one to suffer, and all this “rush” will just backfire right in the Registry’s face.
The hope is that Afilias and GoDaddy manage to talk some sense into Nic.me and make them understand the importance of preparing the launch correctly, giving time to registrars to promote .me effectively to the market.

Whoa, hold your horses there, Dot ME!…
Francesco paints a humorous picture of .ME’s launch programme, which we revealed at the end of March in the French edition of Domaines.Info.His message to the Montenegrin powers-that-be: don’t rush things and make sure you get the launch right. Sound…
